When approached by a publisher to do a book on petroglyphs, Nathan Troi Anderson suggested an alternate concept: exploring the parallels between these symbols of the past with their modern-day equivalents to try and anticipate the future. The resulting book, Shadows of Time, juxtaposes prehistoric dwellings with modern high-rises; ancient stone carvings and inscriptions with neon-bright advertising imagery. Past and present engage in a kind of metaphysical dialog across time and distance, bringing both into closer focus while simultaneously adding to the questions they pose.
