Alexander Nikiporets' fractured vision eschews traditional approaches to the urban and natural landscape, preferring instead to render the city of St. Petersburg and its environs in varied forms of abstract and graphic expression. "I can buy a postcard anywhere and am not interested in taking pictures like everyone else does," says the artist in laying claim to his independent vision. Working with reflections, in-camera multiple exposure techniques, combined darkroom and digital image-making, and printing through etched plastic screens, Nikiporets, who cites Czech photographer Josef Sudek as his biggest influence, sees his photography as an exploration less of subject than of photographic process and the full, boundary-breaking potential for graphic expression in photography.
