FROM SILVER TO PET RECYCLING

Founded in 1992, United Resource Recovery Corp. (URRC), Spartanburg, S.C., started by providing recycling services for the photographic film and stl ver recovery markets. Removing and cleaning silver from photographic film, which is made of PET, helped URRC develop the technology it uses today for PET recycling.rnIn 1994, URRC shifted its focus to developing a new process for recycling PET to make it more streamlined, more economical and able to handle a larger volume of material. Its goal led to the development of its patentee Hybrid UnPET process that chemically cleans PET flakes for food-grade packaging under U.S. Food and Drug Administration's specifications.rnAfter purchasing a competitor, URRC relocated its photographic film and silver recovery business to Knoxville, Tenn., in 2005 to become United DMS of Tennessee LLC, the largest photographic film and silver recycling company in the country. The move allowed for New United Resource Recovery Corp.'s expansion in Spartanburg.
