Top 1000 listing reflects impact of global shake-up

Taiwanese authorities rely on the world's premier bank ranking (in our opinion) to decide who is allowed to invest on the island. Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission requires that foreign banks setting up representative offices must be listed in The Banker's Top 1000 and that those establishing branches must be in the Top 500. To find out if you qualify, check our 2008 listing starting on page 135, which this year includes new tables looking at the impact of the subprime crisis on banking. Bankers and analysts everywhere will pour over the main listing to see how the global shake-up has influenced the ranking.
