VIETCOMBANK: VIETNAM'S SHINING EXAMPLE

Headquartered in Hanoi, the Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) is the third largest partially state-owned commercial bank in Vietnam by assets with $12.2bn in total assets as at 31 December, 2007, representing a market share of 13%. The bank is the most profitable banking and financial services group in Vietnam, generating approximately $267m of pre-provision operating profit as of 31 December, 2007. Vietcombank is currently undertaking its partial privatisation, reducing in the process the government of Vietnam's stake from 100% to approximately 70% by year-end 2008. A 7.5% stake was sold to the public and employees in late 2007.
