The Pitts S2B can be flown in a reasonably small area. I used a paved runway and the local school playground. The plane has small wheels, so if you plan to take off from the ground, you should use hard din, asphalt, or pavement as a runway The motor provided strong acceleration and the Pitts was airborne in less than 40 feet. The tailwheel provides good steering capability while on the ground. You can also hand-launch the Pitts, but landing on grass is still an issue as the gear will "catch" and the plane will "tumble."
