Here's some good news in used: Certified pre-owned sales at BMW of Stratham (N.H.) were up 30 percent in 2008. "CPO sales grow every year, but last year, more people were downsizing" from new cars, so there was a big spike in CPO, says sales manager Chris Thompson. The new CPO section of his store's Web site has helped customers understand the program, he says. The page, which went up in late 2007, includes "10 reasons to buy a certified car" and is updated weekly.
