The Australian wine industry lost a legendary pioneer with the death in October of Jim Barry, who died in Clare Hospital, aged 79, after suffering heart and respiratory problems. He leaves behind an oustanding legacy including his wife nancy and six children Susan McKee, Julie, Dianne, Mark, Peter and John and their partners arid children; and a wine empire which includes a modern winery, numerous vineyards and the famous Jim Barry wine label which has achieved national and international recognition. From his early beginnings as the country's seventeenth Roseworthy oenology graduate and the Clare Valley's first qualified winemaker, Jim left an indelible stamp on the Clare Valley as it has grown into one of the premium wine producing districts in Australia.
