摘要

It is almost a part of Australia's culture that we detest freeloaders. No self-respecting Australian would walk out of a drink with his mates before meeting his obligations to 'shout'. We seem to have been born with an in-built desire to pay our way, and to be called a welcher is worse than being called a common thief. If three quarters of the players on the local golf course on a Saturday had not paid their membership— ever, they'd be run off the place. The reality is non-members would not have the cheek to turn out to play in the first place.
