Pizzini King Valley, Victoria

The Pizzini family migrated from Italy during the 1950s to create a better life for themselves and their growing family. Initially, Robert Pizzini (my grandfather) was brought out to Australia to work on the great Snowy Mountains Scheme as a fitter and turner, but some years earlier two of his brothers had migrated and were growing tobacco in Myrtleford, in the North East Victoria. Subsequently, Robert and his family relocated to the North East to grow tobacco and Pizzini Brothers became the biggest producers of tobacco in the Southern Hemisphere. In the 1960s, the Australian Government began to regulate the tobacco industry and brought in a quota system restricting the amount of tobacco a landholder could produce.
