As concerns about carbon emissions increase along with costs of running winery refrigeration plants, a temperature control system developed in New Zealand offers winemakers the ability to minimise their refrigeration requirements.rnVinWizard was developed by Wine Technology Marlborough (WTM), and has tank temperature control at its heart. Through integration with winery management databases or direct winemaker input, the system is capable of detecting a tank's set-point and whether it is calling for coolant. With this information, refrigeration plants need only run to the capacity required and only when required. "Running chiller units during peak cost winter daytime periods is an absolute waste of money," said WTM's managing director and product developer Dave Gill.
