Cabernet Franc is the heritage grape of the Cabernet family, originating in France's Loire Valley, but grown extensively in Bordeaux and throughout Europe and, now, all around the world. Two centuries ago in France, growers crossed Sauvignon Blanc with Cabernet Franc, and the result was the birth of Cabernet Sauvignon. It is also believed that Merlot is an offspring of Cabernet Franc.
