Located in Hunan province in the south central part of China, the ramie growing Yiyang city is renowned as the "ramie capital of the world". Back to the 1970s, while Yiyang boasted a ramie output of up to 40% of the country's total, it also was in a national leading position in various aspects including material update, technology promotion and industrial development. In 2005, Yiyang was named "China Famous City of Ramie Industry", and in 2006, Yuanjiang city, the core industrial zone of the Famous City of Ramie Industry, was awarded the title of "China Ramie Town".
