The recent introduction by Israel-headquartered Kornit of the Allegro digital textile printing machine is opening up the market for the increased use of pigment inks in the digital textile printing industry. Applications for soft signage have been responsible for much of the growth in digital textile printing to date, while wallcoverings as pioneered by companies such as Erfurt in Germany are also gaining in popularity. Yet despite growth rates of around 25% annually, the digital printing market is still comparatively tiny, representing around just 1.5% of the overall textile printing market. Screen printing still dominates in the major markets of fashion and home textiles and notably in the key textile manufacturing markets such as Brazil, China, India and Turkey.
