Holocene Paleoceanography in the SW Part of the Sea of Okhotsk: A Diatom Record

Diatom analysis was carried out in order to reveal Holocene paleoceanographic history in the SW part of the Sea of Okhotsk with a piston core, recovered off Shiretoko Peninsula, eastern Hokkaido. As the result, we reco- gnized that percent abundances of Thalas- sionema nitzschioides and Neodenticula semi- nae, both of which indicate high productivity, have increased for the last 7,300 years, whereas those of ice-related, allochthonous, and brack- ish species have decreased.
