Survey of Subsurface Structures for Earthquake Hazard Assessment Using Seismic Reflection Method

Since the 1995 Hyogoken-Nanbu earthquake, many reflection seismic surveys have been done at various sites in Japan. The purposes of these seismic studies can be classified into two categories: active fault research and the survey of deep structures. The former is uti- lized to get information on subsurface active structures, and the latter is to get information on geological structures under the sedimentary plain for seismic simulation. The results of these surveys show the usefulness of the seis- mic reflection method.
