China Telecom has begun upgrading its optical fiber network in Shanghai. The telecom service provider said that it would boost the speed of Internet services for enterprise and government users to more than 10Mbps while augmenting its backup capacity. According to a report in Xinhua, China Telecom is also continuing the deployment of Wi-Fi hotspots in the city. It aims to increase the number of hotspots to more than 5,000 in the city by the end of 2011.
