摘要

The opening line of this volume reads: 'This is not a book about climate change.'1 Although this is true, much of the book does focus heavily on this topic and it is clear that the authors are in part responding to attacks on climate science. Climate change is a useful indicator for how well humanity is living within the complex limits of the planet and the authors rightly refer to it throughout. The authors write that they want this book to 'change the perspective from the conventional view that sees societal development and the environment as isolated, often contradictory phenomena, towards a vision that perceives the living biosphere and natural resources as the prerequisites for prosperity and development in the future.
