INTERACTIVE COMPUTER AIDED INSTRUCTIONS FOR TEACHING AND TRAINING

During the past decade computers have started appearing in every office as an essential piece of equipment. What was previously primarily used for number crunching is now a part of the office environment. The computer is also making in roads into the teaching and training environments where newly developed video and communication technologies are a contribution to enhancement of the methodologies. Although computer-based training has been available for many years on a limited scale, its use was compromised due the high cost of such systems. Computer based training systems require specialised hardware and software. Multimedia, for example, can be used to improve the presentation of information but this enhancement will add to the overall cost of the system. Although advancement in other technologies has lowered the cost of hardware, the cost of software can still be prohibitive. It is for this reason that in developing countries such as Sri Lanka, computerbased training is not used extensively, even though it is those countries that should benefit from the lower cost of training that such technologies create.
