Relay Equipment and Receiver for Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting in Japan

In Japan, Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting will be launched in 2003. This paper describes the transmission and relay scheme for this type of broadcasting. The front-end (tuner and channel decoder) module of the receiver and the loop canceller Equipped on the relay stations are also described. We have developed new OFDM receiving techniques that improve the tolerance for multi -path and co-channel interference as well as a brand-new one-chip channel decoder LSI for evaluation.
