The construction of the Changzhou Export Processing Zone in the city of Changzhou in the Jiangsu province of China is well underway. A national-level project, the export-processing zone is set to commence operation in June 2006. Changzhou is located in the Yangtze Delta and lies between Shanghai and Nanjing. With a distance of about 200km from Shanghai, Changzhou is accessible by railroads and expressways. In addition, Changzhou supports trade with other areas with the presence of ports for air and sea travel. As for energy, the city guarantees stable supply of electric power from the Changzhou intermediate station of the Sanxia Dam. There is also a plan for the operation of the Beijing-Shanghai highway in preparation for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
