LED Light Source for 8K/4K LCD Lifts Color Reproducibility

Sharp Corporation has developed a white light-emitting diode (LED) light source for LCD backlights. In terms of white LED devices for backlights of 8K/4K LCD TVs, this white LED light source has the industry highest color reproducibility, which is more than 80 percent of the ITU-R Recommendation BT.2020 next-generation broadcast color reproduction range standard. This article describes the background of this development, efforts made to overcome problems, and superiority of the company's technology.
