Riep] Riepl won the architecture competition set up by the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft (BIG), the federal real estate agency, with a project which, rather than diluting the plan of the campus laid out in 1966 in the grounds of the former Schloss Auhof on the outskirts of Linz, instead completes it. While new buildings or extensions to existing structures meet urgent needs for space, the outdoor areas are given a new diversity of functions along with a new value. This is done in part by less spectacular interventions, for example revealing an area of lawn with trees once covered by overgrown bushes, extending a prominent circulation axis through a ground floor zone that had previously been impermeable, but also by laying out a sports field that serves several functions, as well as a beach volleyball court and a narrow strand at the centrally located campus pond.
