At the junction of two of the main axes in the urban development area near the Main Train Station in Vienna's 10th municipal district, a 35-metre residential tower block soars, resting on a horizontal "L". The volumes that stacked above each other are articulated by means of a horizontal city terrace and by a self-supporting arcade on the street side. The Stadt-loggia (city loggia) is located at a prominent corner of this arcade: with a ceiling height of four metres this communal space provides a place for all those who live and work in the building. The glazed folding-sliding doors can be opened widely, allowing the interior to blend with the public square, a fusion that is underlined by continuing the flooring outside. There is room here for many things, from a family celebration to a flea market to a yoga class. Shop-owners as well as residents and neighbours of the Quartierhaus profit from the opening of the ground floor zone, which brings the life in the interior of "MIO" outside, onto the streets of the Sonnwendviertel.
