Performance-based design for fire safety provisions is acceptable in many countries for construction projects with architectural features which otherwise would not comply with the prescriptive codes. Basically, two types of simulation studies on fire environment and evacuation are commonly required. There are very limited books on those two areas,rnparticularly for evacuation. Most of the information comes from journal papers, conference proceedings and discussion reports.rnThis book is a very good reference on evacuation written by two experts in fire engineering with good academic background and practical experiences. There are many practical examples discussed including examples on crowd management concerns accepted by the authority. There are also some topics such as elevator evacuation for super-tall buildings leading to hot arguments and debates.
