LIFE AMONG THE TREES

The site is located on a south facing slope with an outlook toward a nature park. The initial concept for the project was not only 'life among the trees' which led to an emphasis on the visual connection between living spaces and tree canopy but also the life which provides for the daily experiences and the effects of the thermal environment by 'life among the trees.' The layout of the house takes full advantage of the south facing forested site: the living room for example faces toward the trees and is set at a different level to neighboring houses to avoid overlooking. This established a set of axis which the house grew around. The stairs and outdoor terrace in particular are designed to feel like treetop walkways. Utility, which is summarized in sewer level for reasonable water supply and drainage is, create a space, such as a tunnel connected from the entrance to the living room. Experience slip through here is to emphasize the surrounding forest space that extends vertically and horizontally. The deciduous trees which surround the house function as a natural solar canopy, with ample shade and gentle breezes through the leaves during the summer and more of a connection to the open sky during the winter months when direct sunlight is very welcome. The life among trees here provides the residents with an opportunity to see that the inside surrounding is completed not only by their indoor lives but also by their outdoor lives through their everyday lives.
