OTSUKA GROUP OSAKA HEADQUARTERS

This is an office building for Otsuka Group companies, which is located along Matsuyamachi-suji Street, one of the major streets in Osaka city. In response to the corporate philosophy of "Creativity" and "Change in thinking," and in order to obtain sufficient office floor area in the narrow and long site, we elaborated an innovative design in which the building is entirely enveloped by "skin structure" where H-section steel triangular (diagonal) framework is combined with curtain wall. With this, the building has a unique facade simply showing diagonal lines outside and has easy to use office space with no column shapes along the perimeter. In the north facade, the "diagonal patterns" allow appropriate amount of natural light entering the building while blocking visual lines. Two-story-high "Communication Atrium" is located in the connection of the office area and core area, which facilitate informal communication, chances for getting new idea. The diagonal pattern is also applied to the entrance space. Large triangular ceramic plates are assembled in the manner like "Origami art- as a message of Omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) from the international company. An in-house day nursery on the 1st floor has a triangular roof structure with high windows, which allow soft natural light to shine on the nursery space.
