Recently covered in the architectural press was the completion of Toyo Ito's wavy-roofed concrete shell of Kakamigahara Crematorium in Japan - a rare piece of funerary architecture worth an honourable mention. It is unfortunately the case (certainly in the UK) that the design of these 'human termini' are often moribund modal-change places, with none of the slick-serviced facility of the self-storage environment or the well-composed phenomenology of the metaphysical. It is difficult to understand why these programmatic gems have failed to capture the imagination of such an opportunistic architectural profession.
