EDITORIAL

摘要

This issue opens elegiacally with an introduction by guest-editor Adrian Lahoud that evokes recent events in the tenor of a science-fiction narrative, summoning up a post-apocalyptic world that has already happened. This is a world that has had a consistent scattering of natural disasters and conflicts - the Pacific tsunami, 9/11, the Afghan war, occupation of Iran, Hurricane Katrina, the Shenzhen and Haiti earthquakes - to name but a few that have captured the international media's attention.
