A New Protocol for Space Production: Generating Socially Cohesive Urban Architecture

Our increasingly urbanised world presents new challenges and new opportunities. In the last two decades, contemporary urban developments have deviated from what was originally regarded as the paradigm of the 'modern city'. In particular, East Asian megacities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo have been growing and changing at a mind-boggling speed.Articles upon articles have described how factors including internet-based commerce, improved logistics, transnational flows of goods and the expansion of service industries on a global scale have all contributed to an extraordinary amount of growth in urban areas. To this day, cities' 'production of space' has far surpassed the scope that the current discourse is able to describe. A new understanding of the city needs to be acquired from the current reality.
