Postcard to Canada

It's been two and a half years now living in Melbourne and I am still happy to be here. Melbourne has an amazing design and culture savvy. Even with its fast growing pace, the city still has an underground culture and edge. Being so similar to Montreal it really helps feeling at home. I find the winter months here are just cold enough to put you in a good working mood and keep you focused on work. Although cold, unlike Montreal you don't have to deal with meters of snow and the bitting cold that you feel all the way through your bones. I know once the summer comes around again I will be distracted, enjoying the Australian outdoor lifestyle going to the beach and having BBOs. The difference in climate has also had an impact on the way I design as there is an adjustment in the way you design buildings. Here construction detailing is simpler as you do not have to cater for the extreme variation in the climate. We do not worry about condensation, steel separation between indoor and outdoor structures, ice expansion, etc.
