There is no book about J.H Esmond Dorney, no website; just some essays and a small legacy of modern experimental buildings throughout Victoria and, in particular, Tasmania. It is insufficient. Dorney's work is important and warrants major narrative and accessibility. Its place in history deserves assurance, not atrophy. So it was both timely and fitting that James Jones, in his capacity as RAIA Tasmanian Chapter President, posthumously awarded Dorney the 2008 President's Prize. In conferring the honour, Jones noted that through his work, "Dorney returns us to the worth of architecture, saying something about humanity, who we are through how we build and how we live in the landscape".
