The old adage 'systems are good, everyone should have one' is from my 20 years of practice, a saying that architects took to heart. It appears to me that many practices have as many ways of completing a task as there are staff in the practice. Modern practice means working in a market with a 'just in time' management and decision making attitude. To respond to this, architectural practice must become more organised, more structured and more efficient - design time, decision time, profitability and insurance risk are all under pressure.
