摘要

Heteroepitaxial all-garnet magneto-optical photonic crystal (MOPC) was fabricated to enhance Faraday rotation at 980 nm. MOPC was composed of alternating MO-active Bi_3Fe_5O_(12) and transparent Sm_3Ga_5O_(12) quarter-wavelength layers grown by rf-magnetron sputtering on Ca,Mg,Zr:Gd_3Ga_5O_(12)(111) single crystal substrate. High MO performance at the resonance wavelength λ=980 nm, specific Faraday rotation θ_F=-7.3°/μm, absorption coefficient α = 3350 cm~(-1), and MO figure of merit Q=2|θ_F|/α=43.6° demonstrates feasibility to use bismuth iron garnet MOPCs for application in pump laser diodes, optical amplifiers, modulators, and sensors.
