The power of smart water networks

Today's water utilities face challenges on a number of fronts, among them aging infrastructure, increasing demand, environmental impacts, water scarcity, water quality, and rising energy prices. The currently available funding for repairing, replacing, and expanding distribution systems is insufficient. Estimates show that the cost of repairing and replacing the potable water infrastructure in the United States alone will exceed $1.7 trillion in the next 40 years (WUC, 2012).
