Conservation has come of age, and new tools are helping utilities further trim per capita water use, increase efficiency, and better manage resources. From planning models to reuse programs, this month's articles introduce new concepts and expand the tools available to utility personnel. Accurate projections form the cornerstone of planning and, as noted by Haagenson and colleagues (page 37; full text online), are essential to defining target growth and securing financing. With climate playing a larger role in demand variability, it is becoming more critical for utilities to be able to incorporate extreme weather scenarios when demand extremes are projected.
