American Cast Iron Pipe Company (AMERICAN), headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., was founded in 1905, became a member of AWWA in 1907, and first advertised in Journal AWWA in 1920. AMERICAN'S water works products include iron and steel pipe in diameters from 4 in. through 12 ft., the American-Darling and Waterous brands of fire hydrants, resilient seated gate valves to 66 in., other valve and hydrant products, and rubber gasket products. AMERICAN also produces electric resistance welded steel pipe for the energy markets.
