Bone and tooth structure, the formation of 'stones' in humans, and the deposition of phosphate-bearing scale on boiler and heat exchanger surfaces appear to have a common origin-the formation of hydroxyapatite [Ca_(10)(PO_4)_6(OH)_2]. This latter substance has in recent years been the focus of attention that has been directed toward all basic calcium phosphates for the purpose of elucidating the process of calcification in general and its manifestations in dentistry in particular. . . .
