Experiments were conducted on the packed-column air stripping of six volatile organic compounds found in groundwater migrating from a landfill site in Gloucester, Ont. Mass transfer rate constants determined experimentally, at column loading rates typical of full-scale application, were compared with rate constants predicted by three correlations.... Finding an uncontaminated water source is increasingly difficult in today's world.. .. Of the contaminants found in water, organic chemicals are of particular concern. Many organic species are not captured by treatment, even by tertiary treatment operations. The species that survive are generally highly volatile, low-molecular-weight, relatively nonpolar organics.
