The future of industry

Is it time for a new definition of manufacturing? One that takes into account all the phases of a product's development, production, sales and servicing? Paul Christodoulou, senior industrial fellow at the University of Cambridge's Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), thinks so. "Yes," he says, "we think it is time industry and governments recognised manufacturing as a much broader set of activities than just the physical process of production." Speaking at Rockwell Automation's technology fair in Baltimore, Christodoulou outlined the IfM thinking.
