Alkaline Weight Reduction Of Polyester Fibers

Polyester fibers were treated with sodium hydroxide solutions prepared in methanol and ethanol. The weight loss levels obtained were considerably higher than those obtained with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide at equivalent parameters of concentration, time and temperature of treatment. Good linear correlations were observed between weight loss and the tenacity and moisture regain of treated fibers.
