Too Cautious? Not When It Comes to Dye Transfer

In writing articles for this column it often occurs to me that the test procedures I recommend may be too extensive. Am I asking cleaners to be overly cautious and are the testing procedures I suggest causing extra, unnecessary work for cleaners and spotters? Writing test procedures or suggesting spotting and cleaning practices to fill space is not my goal. But after last month's column on testing for "bleeders," I was concerned that I had overemphasized the need to test colors before dry cleaning. I soon was confronted by experiences that made those concerns disappear. You can't take anything for granted when it comes to dye transfer, especially when you have problems like the ones that follow.
