Most suede and leather garments are put together with some kind of glue, cement or other adhesive. Garment manufacturers use these materials in hems, cuffs, seams, inner facings, collars, pocket flaps, lapels, buttonholes, waistbands and other areas. The purpose? To bond the skins together. The problem with the extensive use of glue by manufacturers is twofold. First, adhesives used in manufacturing often have a tendency to bleed through to the surface of the skin, leaving dark stains that are difficult to remove. Second, most adhesives used by manufacturers are solvent-soluble, and can dissolve when the garment is cleaned.
