The list of North American brick plants where robots are used in the movement of formed and fired brick-i.e., hacking and dehacking-is growing. The latest installations are at Hebron Brick (N.D.), U.S. Brick (Elgin, Texas) and Taylor Clay Products (Salisbury, N.C.). These installations join at least five others, making a total of eight plants with robots-out of a total of 203 brick plants in the United States. There has been extensive use of automation in brick plants over the last 20 years, particularly in the area of setting machines. It may be of interest to define "robot."
