When we originally bought the store we did make custom cakes, and I quickly realized that I could not do everything, so we hired a pastry chef to handle that part of the business. We made the decision three years ago, when our pastry chef was going to be moving out of state, to stop making custom cakes. The change has allowed us to focus more on the retail portion of the business and allowed us to be able to offer more classes. Additionally, it seemed like a conflict to be selling supplies to people who had area businesses makinq and decoratinq cakes and competing with them at the same time.
