At 13:00 on February 21,2016, SWISS (LX) first Boeing 777-3oo(ER) went into service on its first long-haul flight, roaring out of Zurich Airport (ZRH) bound to New York (JFK). The aircraft was the first of nine of the type that SWISS has ordered to replace its 15 aging and soon-to-be-retired Airbus A340-330S. SWISS bought them mostly because they were available on short notice and their prices were low because the 777-9 looms on the horizon. I was on board that first flight.
