Every time a new airport opens around the world, Berliners sigh and ask: "When will ours be ready?" For years, the German capital has been waiting for its new airport, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg (BER), to become operational. In 2001, Klaus Wowereit, Berlins then-mayor, announced that the government was hoping for a 2007 opening of what would eventually become the once-divided city's new single airport. Well, we all know that didn't happen.
