Kunming International Airport

Chinese airport operator, the Yunnan Airport Group, is reported to be on the look out for global strategic investors to help it fund a new $2.7 billion airport in the provincial capital of Kunming. The airport, which perhaps optimistically has a provisional opening date of between 2010-2012, is expected to become mainland China's fourth-largest gateway, handling 38mppa and up to 1.3 million tonnes of freight per annum by 2020. It will initially boast two 4,000m runway runways and an ultra-modern 400,000sqm terminal building - designed by UK based design/engineering consultancy Arup in collaboration with a Chinese design institute - capable of handling 24mppa.
