LEONARDO HAS been awarded a €300m (US$339m) contract to deliver 13 additional M-345 HET (High Efficiency Trainer) jets to the Aeronautica Militare (AM, Italian Air Force), for a total of 18, locally designated the T-345A. Ultimately, the AM has a requirement for 45 such aircraft to replace its MB-339A and MB-339CD (T-339A and FT-339C) fleets. It will also replace the MB-339PAN with the Frecce Tricolori demonstration team. Deliveries of the first five T-345As to the 61° Stormo at Lecce-Galatina air base are due to begin early next year. The contract includes ground-based training systems and a five-year logistics support package.
