Chinook and Puma assist in UK flood relief

RAF CHINOOK HC6A ZA720 carries a slung load in an effort to stem the flow of floodwater in Wainfleet, Lincolnshire, on June 14. The Chinook, together with a Puma HC2, both from RAF Benson, Oxfordshire, were deployed after the region received more than double June's average rainfall within three days, and the River Steeping breached its defences. Air support created a plug to stem the flow, while evacuation of more than 580 homes took place. In total, the Chinook delivered almost 70 one-tonne bags of gravel to boost the flood defences.
